So as I said earlier there should be at least eight teams, but sixteen would be the ultimate maximum you could go for a pretty awesome college football playoff. Any one of these sixteen teams could have won the national championship, in a sixteen team playoff battle in the middle of winter, in environments that aren't dome controlled. Now that I just threw those factors in, do you think a little differently about the only the top four teams could win it theory? Here is what the playoffs would have looked like using last year's final BCS rankings (Games shown in order of what the bracket would look like):

Round One:

1) LSU vs 16) Georgia
These teams would meet for the second time in as many weeks and Georgia might have possibly been able to give them a game through the third quarter this time instead of just to halftime like the week before. It would be a scare for the top team in the tournament but in the end they would win by three scores in what's just the start to a great round of playoffs.

8) Kansas State vs 9) South Carolina
South Carolina would have to leave the warm weather of the SEC and go into a cold and windy Kansas State for a playoff game with a packed house. Maybe a little snow is falling and making that ball slippery and the track slow. South Carolina turns the ball over a bunch of times and Kansas State pulls through late to win a close one. South Carolina becomes the only SEC team to lose in the first round as a casualty of weather.

4) Stanford vs 13) Michigan
Michigan travels to Stanford for a first round battle. Andrew Luck goes head to head with DeNard Robinson in a battle between two totally different QB's. The explosive and exciting runner in Robinson vs the traditional pocket passer in Luck. Stanford ends up winning in a shoot out by two scores.

5) Oregon vs 12) Baylor
Speaking of shoot outs this would be the most anticipated game of the first round. Two absolutely explosive offenses going head to head in what would easily be the highest scoring game in the entire postseason. Robert Griffin leads the troops into Eugene to face LaMichael James and the Ducks. Baylor pulls the upset in a shoot out win late and sets up the match up everyone wants to see in the second round with Griffin against Luck.

6) Arkansas vs 11) Virginia Tech
Arkansas lost two games all year. One to LSU the other to Alabama. Virginia Tech won the ACC like they always do. Va Tech plays well into the third quarter with ball control. But after Arkansas adjusts, they pull away to win by ten.

3) Oklahoma State vs 14)Oklahoma
It's the best type of Bedlam there could possibly be. PLAYOFF STYLE BEDLAM! In the second version of Bedlam this year Oklahoma looks to get revenge as they head back into Stillwater. Oklahoma comes out with a whole new game plan as the pre season number one looks primed to pull the upset. But there's one problem, the Cowboy offense is way too much. Justin Blackmon has another monstrous game and the Cowboys advance with a big fourth quarter.

7) Boise State vs 10) Wisconsin
Come on now. Wisconsin goes into the Smurf Turf for an early December playoff game. The first time a power six school has visited Boise since Oregon went down and LeGarret Blount gave boxing lessons. Kellen Moore and the Broncos high powered offense look phenomenal early, but Montee Ball and Russell Wilson keep up with the tempo. Eventually Wisconsin's defense figures it out and gives the offense just enough stops to win the game by six.

2) Alabama vs 15) Clemson
Teams from the south still getting after it in first round battles. Everyone was talking about how Clemson's offense looked like an SEC offense all year long. Alabama's defense has a little something to say about that shutting down the high powered Tigers. Alabama's running game also overpowers Cleamson's small defense and it's ROLL TIDE all the way through and into the second round.

Quarterfinals

1) LSU vs 8)Kansas State
Kansas State leaves the wild and wacky weather that they had with their home field advantage and goes right into the teeth of Death Valley. The Wildcats get rattled from the get go and the Tigers pounce and take full advantage. It's never even a game as LSU dismantles K-State by a score of 47-3.

4) Stanford vs 12) Baylor
Without a doubt this game would be the most talked about of the year with Robert Griffin taking the Bears into Palo Alto for a battle with Andrew Luck and the Cardinal. It ends up being the shoot out and the game that everyone expected. Stanford's running game controls this one a little better in the second half as Stanford tops Baylor 35-27.

3) Oklahoma State vs 6) Arkansas
An SEC team travels into the Southwest to take on the Big XII champs. The environment in Stillwater is a rattling one as Arkansas can't seem to put it together early. But with the Razorback defense bending but not breaking, Brandon Weeden and the Cowboys keep them in the game. It's only 16-6 at halftime. Finally in the second half that SEC defense shows up to play as they limit OK State to just one field goal. That explosive Arkansas offense also takes advantage scoring on three consecutive drives to win it 27-19.

2) Alabama vs 10) Wisconsin
The Big Ten heads into prime SEC territory as Wisconsin comes into Tuscaloosa. The Wisconsin offense proves that it can hang with the big boys putting together scoring drives on the vaunted Crimson Tide defense. Trent Richardson then takes control of this game leading two long scoring drives and finishing the Badgers off with a 35 yard TD run. Bama moves to the semi's 37-27.

Semifinals

1) LSU vs 4) Stanford
Andrew Luck gets the chance to show how great he really is when he heads into Baton Rouge to face the Tigers in National Semifinal number one. Luck and the Cardinal are using a very good mix early to keep the LSU defense off balance. On the flip side, the LSU offense is non existent in the first half as Stanford is up by ten at the break. With both teams making some solid second half adjustments Stanford comes into the fourth only down six. They drive and go up by one late in the game. Now with not a lot of time left and the LSU offense forced to throw, they can't dig their way out. Stanford pulls a huge upset and the favorite goes home.

2) Alabama vs 6) Arkansas
Another SEC West rematch from this season. Arkansas is on a high note right now after knocking off Oklahoma State in Stillwater. So much that they take it into this game and come out firing on all cylinders. They're not afraid of that Crimson Tide crowd or the Roll Tide Roll. But just like Alabama did to teams all year, they wear you down and once the Razorbacks were worn down the Tide pull away to the tune of 38-21.

National Championship

4) Stanford vs 2) Alabama
Andrew Luck would have gotten a chance to complete an unthought of playoff run competing against the best defenses in the country. Alabama just showed up and did what they do best, run the ball and play great defense. They grinded it out and they wore you down. Luck and his offense aren't scared of the Alabama D and this is a game through the fourth quarter. But Alabama is too much and they pull away late to take the National Title 24-16.

I'm not saying this all would have happened last season, but I'm saying this could have happened last season with a sixteen team playoff. And if you're a fan of college football, you can't tell me that this wouldn't have been better than the bowl season. It's always fun to look at what could have been, and for college football this could have been a lot of fun to watch. I'm sure the ratings would be through the roof.
