Is There Anything Worse In Sports Than Your Franchise Having A Terrible Owner?

People put their heart and soul into their favorite sports teams, there's no doubt about it. Most people aren't lucky enough to ever see their team win anything, ever. You put so much into your team and get nothing in return. So is there anything worse than your favorite sports franchise having absolutely terrible ownership?

Quite honestly, the answer to that question is no. And for more reasons than one. First of all, you can't do anything about terrible ownership. There is no chance of them leaving unless they die, or if they go bankrupt and decide to sell the team. Other than those two extremes, there is no chance of your team getting better ownership and making better decisions.

Even if you have a terrible coach with terrible ownership, you know that because your teams ownership is so bad the next coach they hire is going to be a terrible coach as well. You literally have no hope for your teams future. The owners are the guys who pull all the strings and decide on all the contracts. Don't let anyone else fool you like the GM is actually making the contracts. The GM gets who he thinks is right, and the owners come up with the contracts. Therefore, the Wilpons who are the owners of the Mets might be the worst owners in the history of sports (see Jason Bay, Mo Vaughn, Jeremy Burnitz, Roberto Alomar, K-Rod, Sean Green and whoever else has sucked over the years).

And even if the owner dies sometimes their son will take over and be just as bad as the father. Like the Oakland Raiders. Al Davis was terrible, especially at the end, and now whoever took over for him is just as terrible (see Carson Palmer trade for two first round picks). Those fans can't win either. Terrible ownership in sports is the worst possible thing that your favorite team can have. Your choices basically lie in finding a new team, or developing a drinking problem. Other than that, I feel for you if your team has awful owners, I know what you're going through. After all, I am a Mets fan.
