So Dickey's Heading to Canada and I'm Not Mad About It

I'm going to keep this short and sweet.

A lot of Mets fans are pissed and saying they're (finally) jumping ship because of this trade. To that I say go ahead because you're stupid.

You make this deal 10 times out of 10. Yes, the sexier package was the Angels for Trumbo but the Angels weren't going to do that.

The Mets got back the best catching prospect in baseball in Travis d'Arnaud and another stud arm (Noah Syndergaard) that is going to go along with Harvey, and Wheeler.

Dickey is 38 years old coming off a Cy Young, his value isn't going to be any higher than this. If they went into the season with Dickey it was a lose, lose situation for the Mets. Either Dickey was going to have another Cy Young esque season and outgrow the Mets checkbooks so he would've walked, or (the likely scenario) he would've sucked and we wouldn't have gotten anything back in any potential deal (see, Angel Pagan).

I trust Sandy, he is the original godfather of Moneyball. He knows what he's doing.

Catching prospects pan out, look at Posey, Yaddy, Wieters, and McCann. There aren't many busts lately there. You win baseball games by being strong up the middle and that all starts at catcher.

Time will tell but we're going to look back at this trade and say thanks Dickey.
