Just saw a tweet from baseball columnist Joel Sherman saying,
"Dickey said there was "progress" in contract talks but that's not impression
and

Clearly, the regular met fan will freak out over this and not understand it, but I'm not. Listen, do I want this guy to go? Absolutely not, but if the Mets pull this off the way it should be done, this will fulfill something I've wanted them to do for a long time.
I'm a huge fan of trading players at their highest value. I liked the James Harden trade the Thunder made because they knew they weren't resigning him so they swapped him for a shit ton of talent and picks now rather than waiting till the deadline when teams knew the Thunder wouldn't have any leverage.
I've also been saying the Yankees should look into swapping Cano for three to four prospects. But back to the Mets, they need to make one of these three or four for one deals. Dickey is clearly at his highest value right now and an extension might not happen. Sandy Alderson is smart to gauge the market.
I really wish the Mets did something like this two years ago with Angel Pagan after that really solid 2010 season. They didn't; they kept him around and instead traded him for absolutely nothing the next offseason (Andres Torres and Ramon Ramirez). Pagan went on to be an important part to a World Series team.
A few years ago, the Baltimore Orioles swapped their then ace Erik Bedard for four prospects (Adam Jones, Chris Tillman, George Sherrill). This is an example of a trade that the Mets could and should pull off here with the probable NL CY Young Award winner.
Another one was when the Rays traded then super prospect, Delmon Young to Minnesota for Matt Garza and Jason Bartlett. That move got them to the World Series the next year.
The most notable one was made by the Texas Rangers. They were terrible for years and they traded their best player Mark Teixeira to Atlanta for Elvis Andrus, Matt Harrison, Neftali Feliz and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
That was an organization changing move, all of them were.
This is the Mets chance to make theirs.
I don't necessarily agree with it, but from a business perspective its makes perfect sense... especially after he wins the Cy Young.
