Why Kobe Bryant Scoring 47 Isn't a Good Thing For the Lakers

Last night Kobe Bryant scored a season high 47 points for the Lakers in a 113-106 win over the Blazers. But Kobe scoring 47 and shooting 27 times isn't necessarily a good thing for the Lakers especially come playoff time. Even teammate Pau Gasol who scored 23 points last night said after the game that it was "bittersweet" watching Kobe score that much. And Gasol should have been the only happy guy on the team last night seeing as that he scored 23 points.

In the playoffs you don't win games with one guy scoring all the points. When Jordan dropped 62 against Larry Bird and the Celtics the Bulls lost that game. Why? Because when one guy dominates the ball it makes your team easier to defend. That's what I have been trying to tell Knicks fans about Melo. When a guy shoots 27 times in a game it means that he doesn't trust his teammates. He is basically saying I have a better chance at making a shot with two or three guys on me than my teammates do of making an open shot.

Sure Kobe had 5 assists last night but he played 48 minutes. Only 5 assists in 48 minutes isn't good enough when you're the guy dominating the ball. Does anyone remember when the Lakers went on that hot streak in the middle of the season? Kobe was dropping 12-15 assists per game! I'm not taking anything away from Kobe's performance because he was amazing last night. But come playoff time, a lot of points and one guy dominating the ball isn't going to win. Go ahead and tell me differently but when you're playing the Thunder or you're playing the Heat, you're not winning this way. That's just not how you win games in the postseason.
