Tommy The Mic Gives You The New York Jets All Time Best Games (Since 1997)

Post by Tommy the Mic:

For people like me, it's the best time of the year. A time when you can dream that the misery I've had for the past fifteen years of my life will come to an end. Then you come to your senses and say to yourself, "It cant happen", Why you ask? Because they're the Jets.

Most kids grew up with bedtime stories, I got Jet heartbreak stories. The 81' playoff game vs the Bills, the AJ Dewey game A.K.A. "The Mud Bowl", and of course the Gastineau game. Despite all the misery, my dad made me a Jet fan.

So what I'm going to do is give you my top 5 games since 97', and my top 5 low points (Coming Tuesday). And you may think you know more about this team than I do, and would be more qualified to make a list yourself. But the fact is, you dont. If you can name every game in order, every starter, and every important impact moment in those games, then come see me. If not, then suck a dick.

Top 5
5) September 24th 2000 vs Tampa
I remember this game like it was yesterday. We traded Keyshawn before the year and during the week he said he was a star and that our boy Chrebet was a lantern. Both teams were 3-0. Vinny played terrible most of the day. But in true Jet fashion they just hung around. Late in the 4th, they used a gimmick play and Curtis Martin hit Chrebet on an option pass to seal the game.

4) December 29th 2002 vs Green Bay
It was the last week in the season and we needed either Cleveland to beat Atlanta or New England to beat Miami. Cleveland had a goal line stand and secured a playoff spot, and New England was trailing by 10 late. The Jet game started with New England taking Miami into overtime. When Vinatieri hit the game winner, the Meadowlands went nuts. Now the Jets controlled their own destiny to take the division. We killed the Pack 42-17. This was the year Chad took over. They won the division despite starting the year 1-4.

3) January 17th 2010 vs Chargers
Nobody was giving them a chance to win. The Chargers were by far the hottest team going into the playoffs. They were up 7-0 going into halftime but the Jets cut the lead to 4 after Feeley hit a long field goal. Late in the 3rd Sanchez made his only mistake of the game and got picked. Our boy Revis then came right back with a pick of his own and saved the game. The Jets then went on to score 17 unanswered. The Shaun Greene run is without a doubt top 5 moments in Jet playoff history, but of course that isn't saying much.

2) January 16th 2011 vs Patriots
This is especially memorable for me, because I was actually there. I'd be lying if I said I gave them a shot to win the game. New England was a power house and in true Jet fashion, after a hot start to the season, they faded. On a side note it was fucking freezing, now back to the game. With the Jets up 7-3 right before the half, Chung audibled on a punt for a fake and the Jets sniffed it out. Sanchez hit Braylon for 7 before the half and later hit Holmes in the 4th. To date, in my lifetime as a Jet fan, this is by far the biggest upset. Especially for the fact that they got beat by the Pats 45-3 in week 13 with the division on the line.

1) January 10th 1999 vs Jags
The 98 season was only my second year as a die hard, and at the age of 8 it totally spoiled me. After winning the division and going 12-4 they got a first round bye and faced the Jags in the divisional playoffs. This Jet team was by far my favorite. Vinny was lights out the whole year after taking over for Foley in week 3. The game is most memorable for the fact that it was the Jets first home playoff game since 1986. Keyshawn had a monster day, he caught and ran for a TD and even had a pick on the final play of the game when Parcells put him in to defend the home run ball. Games like this are the reason im
still a fan of this team.

Honarable mentions -

-October 19th 1997 vs Patriots
Tuna bowl II

-December 19th 1998 vs Buffalo
This game clinched the division

-October 23rd 2000 vs Dolphins
This was too obvious to put in the top 5

-January 6th 2002 vs Raiders
Hall hit a long field goal as time ran out to send the Jets into the playoffs on the last week of the season

-January 4th 2003 vs Colts
After somehow making the playoffs and winning the division, they smacked the Colts 41-0. They were actually talked about as Super Bowl favorites but lost in Oakland the next week.

-January 8th 2005 vs Chargers
On the road, in the rain, after a terrible finish to the regular season, they beat the heavily favored Chargers in OT

-November 12th 2006 vs Patriots
On the road they beat the Pats to keep there playoff hopes alive. Memorable play was Pennington to Cotchery TD pass in the right corner of the endzone.

-November 23rd 2008 vs Titans
The Titans were 10-0 and coming off a big win vs the Pats. The Jets dominated and went to 8-3 but we all know what happened after this (plus I lost my bet to Steve this season)

-September 20th 2008 vs Patriots
The Meadowlands was a zoo, the defense was lights out, and Rex started 2-0 as a Head Coach
