What's Wrong With Roy Halladay?

After last night's shellacking at the hands of the Mets, Roy Halladay has started this season 0-2 with a 14.73 ERA. Are we watching the beginning of the end of one of the greatest pitchers of our generation? Is it all a fluke? All anyone can really ask is what's wrong with Roy Halladay?

Well, if you've watched him pitch at all this year including in spring training it's easy to see right now. Halladay isn't the pitcher that he used to be. His velocity is way down and those pitches that guys used to just miss are now being laced all over the field. What is also a huge part of the problem is his command. He's not getting ahead of guys the way he used to. When you're constantly pitching from behind, major league hitters are going to make you pay for it.

It's no secret that Halladay isn't the guy he used to be. However, it's hard for me to believe that he is completely done. It's just two starts, he has about 28 more to go. He'll right the ship once he realizes that he needs to get ahead and stay ahead of hitters. He's not that dominating presence on the mound anymore. But he is a competitor and I do expect him to change his style of pitching and make himself better. All he needs is a little bit of time to come to terms with the fact that he is clearly on the back end of his career.

Sidenote: Mets fans, Matt Harvey may just be the real deal. But I haven't seen enough yet. I want to see how he responds after he gets shelled before I make my decision.
