The Very Long Way Home

Story from Juice and Whit (Sacred Heart University)

"We went to school up in Connecticut so taking the train into New York was really easy. We get tickets one night to the Yankee Red Sox game at the beginning of May last year. It was the game where the Yankees came back in the 9th and shoved it up Papelbon's ass. Marcus Thames hit the walk off home run. After this we were like fuck it, we have to stay out. We went to the bar after the game was over because we had to celebrate the win. We're at the bar, we meet these two girls and we're having an awesome time. Without realizing it, we miss the last train back from the stop right by the stadium. I call my other roommate to see what time the last train from Grand Central comes, I don't even know what time it was, but we only had like twenty or twenty five minutes to get there.

We had very little time to get there, both of our cell phones just died, and we both had no money in our wallets. We were basically fucked. We were planning on just waiting at the train station until six in the morning because we had no other choice. Then, the magic happened. A midget, yes an actual midget comes up to the platform. This dude was like a magic leprechaun he came out of nowhere. He comes up and asks us if there was another train coming. We told him we missed the last one back to Connecticut from here but the train at Grand Central comes soon it's the last one until 5:55 in the morning. Surprisingly, the midget also had to go back to Connecticut.

We tried to hop on the subway to get to Grand Central, but there was no way we were gonna make it. We jump outside with the midget and get a cab. We tell the midget that we both have no money and he said it was fine, he'd take care of it. The cab hauls ass to get to Grand Central in time and we actually make it. The magic midget even buys us our tickets because again, we had no money. So we're on the train and everything is good, we're on the way back to Connecticut. We end up leaving the midget, but thank god he was there.

Next problem, our phones are dead. One of our roommates dropped us off at the train. The station is nowhere near our house. It wasn't even in the same town. We had no choice, but to try and walk it. As we're walking, a cop car pulls up next to us. The officer asks us what we're doing out still since it's about 4:30 in the morning. We say to him, "Listen, you're probably not going to believe us, but we went to the Yankee game, somehow made it back to Connecticut and now we have no ride home because both our phones are dead." The officer stares at us for a second and goes, "No way! I was at the game tonight to! How awesome was it? Look at these seats I had." He whips out his cell phone and starts showing us pictures from the game. He asks us where we live and then tells us that he's gonna send his friend to come pick us up. His friend shows up in a SWAT van. We got a ride home from a cop in the back of a SWAT van. Finally, after all that, we actually made it home. Still probably the greatest story of both our lives. Someone even wrote a song about it."

I have no words other than that this is easily in the running for Drunk Story of the Year. Really, no words come to mind other than awesome.
