Turn Out The Lights, The Party's Over

I am completely referring to the season of the New York Mets. With their most recent loss to the Florida Marlins they fall back to the .500 mark and are just about out of the wild card race. I know there's a third of the season left, but it's over. The bullpen is completely unreliable, the line up is so-so and they have played completely over their head for most of the season.

Coming into this year I thought they would finish in dead last. They actually can still do that, but I don't think they will. However, the fact is that the Marlins, Nationals and Phillies own them, and you can never count on them to win a must win game. Am I that upset about their season being pretty much over? No. They gave us tolerable baseball until August. That's much longer than the norm. I'm almost amazed by that.

What do they need to do for next year? Somehow find an ace, because Pelfrey isn't it. Get a second baseman, because Turner and Tejada aren't major league starters. They need a closer and just about every other part of a bullpen, and please trade Jason Bay. Tell the Pirates you'll take half his salary if they take him and you don't even want anything in return. Throw in Mr. Met as their butler for a month too. Maybe they'll jump at that. But for Mets fans it's time to look towards football season because 2011 has just about come to an end.
